All the news They fit to print

Don't get me wrong, I love me some New York Times - especially on Sunday mornings this time of year when drinking coffee and doing the crossword puzzle makes me feel smarter (until its editor, Will Shortz, starts "inventing" words I don't know just to humiliate me in front of...my coffee. Because when you live alone you sometimes feel like your food judges you).

Anyway, like I was saying, I'm familiar with the NYT, which is why I was not surprised when it categorically endorsed Barack Obama for President. The Times is legendarily liberal and, while I love it, can be a snot-nosed, goodie-two-shoes kind of paper.

It's like the girl who rushed to the bathroom and started crying because she got a 97 instead of a 100 on the Physics test. Outwardly you loathed her, but inside you kinda wanted to be her. Or at least date her so she'd do your homework for you.

On the other hand, The Beaumont Enterprise decided to endorse John McCain, which makes us the Camaro-driving star football player who's dating the bookish-but-hot-glasses-wearing head cheerleader. And who doesn't want to be THAT guy, am I right?

Hey Matty D - this made me laugh out loud (and cringe a little because that chick in the bathroom crying over the 97 was me, well, it was a 99 but who's counting). Congrats!

I don't want to be that guy, nor would I want to date that guy. Ick!

No need to hate on New York Times for being a kick a** newspaper that picked the best candidate. I mean, the Washington Post, a you might say categorically conservative paper, also picked Barack.

And, it's no surprise the Enterprise picked the conservative candidate. That's all the editoral board knows how to do--unless it's a local candidate. Then, and only then, a Democrat might have a shot.

RE: youknowyouloveme

I was a little surprised at our editorial board, but honestly could have gone either way.

And , I do love The Washington Post, but am not sure that I'd call it conservative. Not as liberal as the NYT, though...

Why again do papers endorses candidates? Its always seemed like a conflict of interest. Isn't it kind of like your parents picking their favorite kid?

Re: mark c

Good point. Newspaper endorsements are mostly a throwback to when everyone knew the editorial board (a bi-partisan, handpicked group at the paper who selected a candidate to endorse).

That was also when newspapers were the main source of news.

Now, since most people get news elsewhere and traditional newspapers are dying, it can seem like an out-dated practice.

Yet it lives on...

Why is "poonilei" used as the word I type for word verification?

When I checked, Google asked if I meant "poonie."

Funny! I happened to be that girl. Only I made a 98 on the Intermediate Micro Economics exam that everyone else failed. And guess what? I am voting for McCain! How is that possible? Gee, maybe because I have a degree in ECONOMICS! ;) Oh and I didn't cry. I bet that makes a difference too! :)
