Would you like some angry with your tea?

Good morning Southeast Texas! All over the country today people are gathering in "Tea Party Protests" - an obvious homage to the Boston Tea Party of 1773 - to express their anger at what they think is too much federal spending on the part of the current administration.

And protests of this sort make sense, because things now are JUST like when the British ruled American colonies, taxed them without giving them elected voices in government, forced people to quarter British soldiers at risk of personal harm and with no compensation, and men wore dusty gray wigs with tri-cornered hats.

Actually, this in no way parallels the reasons behind the original Boston Tea Party. For one thing a small percentage of wealthy Americans being asked to pay a bit more in taxes than everyone else is not the same as being executed for talking back to a redcoat.

However, we applaud people utilizing the First Amendment to express their opinions - one of the rights not given to colonials and an actual reason they unloaded the British tea - and say that, if you want to dress up in colonial garb, borrow your kids recorder, and march against paying taxes levied by the same people you elected, then go for it.

Here are the details:
What - Southeast Texas Tax Day Tea Party Protest
When - 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where - US Post Office, 5815 Walden Road
Contact - 409-338-0225

It's not really about taxes at all. It's protesting the way the Government is mortgaging our futures by going into massive debt to "stimulate" our economy. Its also about stopping the expanding power of the Federal Government. It's also about protecting capitalism and the "American Dream".

But your right, people that believe in the Constitution and evil rich people can't protest. Protesting is only acceptable if you are a liberal or a Bostonian in 1773.

while i don't get, i'll still give them a nod because @ least they are doing something - not just sitting @ home moping and complaining

RE: Dale Doback
I'm not sure if you read to the end of my post. Even though I disagree with you, I encouraged your right to protest and included the time/date/place in case readers were interested.

RE: jmck
I don't get it either, but I agree. Loud participation is better than quiet apathy any day.

Where were all these tax protesters when The Former Occupant was running this country into debt at the rate of a trillion dollars a year (and increasing)on two misbegotten wars against two countries that had never fired a shot at us and one of which is populated by such "warriors" as sheepherders and opium producers? If you don't want to pay taxes, don't and learn to live with whatever the consequences may be.
Taxes pay for the things that we need, fire and police departments, schools, streets, utilities, the military., just to name a few. If you feel like you aren't getting your money's worth, Cuba doesn't require taxes to be paid. Move there and see what they do when they need money.
Our future has been mortgaged since the country was formed and it will ever be thus. And the rich will ever and always find a way to avoid paying taxes to the country that enabled their filthy lucre

I agree. I wish i woudlve seen more active discontentment with the former administration that forced us into this spending spree. i think people are facing paying taxes with money they simply dont have and thats reason enough to protest but i wonder how long these people have been paying attention or how long they will continue to actively participate. so many people supported 'change' in this country without ever considering what type of responsibility they were assuming. we really all have to contribute to turning this mess around and that means a lot more than casting one vote and then watching what happens.

RE: Anne

I wasn't pleased with the policies of George W either but even as much as he liked to spend the taxpayer’s money, he never approached the levels of the "stimulus" package. You realize that Obama has proposed more spending than all the other Presidents combined?

Not sure why you liberals are still hung up on the war. Is Obama doing anything different than W did? Maybe W wasn't the warmongering monster that Chris Matthews said he was.

One final thing and this is for all you liberals, RICH PEOPLE ARE NOT THE ENEMY. Sucess should NEVER be punished.

RE: Brennan Huff
I don't think rich people are the enemy. I just think that those who complain about paying more taxes shouldn't do so.

One day, I would like to be a rich person. And when that happens, I will be fine with paying my share of taxes. Like Anne, I too appreciate the things that taxes pay for.

Brennan Huff,
I'm "hung up" on the war because two of the men in my family are still fighting the damn-fool thing, that's why. And the way the VA and other higher ups in the military are treating the wounded and ill men and women who are returning home damage, some beyond repair, is criminal and cold and hopefully, there IS a God and they will all get to meet him someday.

Anne, as per usual, getting her misinformation from CNN, has missed the point.

The protest is not about the tax burden we currently share, it is the one our future generations are going to bear as a results of our current administration's and Congress' runaway spending and economic bailouts.

BOTH PARTIES ARE GUILTY OF THIS!

If she would have bothered to attend the event she might have realized this.

Although I personally don't think you can teach an old liberal dog new tricks...

And, I would guess, she actually buys into the the Obama Administration's spiel that from "a bright, sunny, safe day in April 2009" the terrorists threat is over.

Poor fool.

RE: S.

How curious. Who would have guessed that Anne was both old and a dog? How does she type with her geriatric paws?

S. said...

Well Matt,

Judging by the content of he comments, I assumed that this was the Anne from Iowa of the Bayou who would herself tell you herself that she is indeed old but probably not characterize herself as a dog, although she frequently threatens to "sit her big ass" on certain persons, so you be the judge.

Fortunately, I have not experienced whether or not this is true as she rarely even responds to my comments much less threaten me with her hind quarters.

As to how she types with her paws, you'll have to ask her. I haven't a clue.

RE:

Anne...S. and I would like to know how you type with your paws. ;-)

Anne said...

Well, Matt and S, I don't type with my paws or my "big ass" as S so charmingly refers to me even though I don't remember ever referring to him as a racist, homophobic, scripture quoting pig who evidently thinks he has all the answers to the world's problems. Once again, I'm tempted to call him out for the ass that I perceive him to be, but I won't do that. I'll take the high road and say a prayer to the earth goddess to shelter him from the slings and arrows of mischievous fortune.
There were no "tea parties" in this town as everyone seemed to be at work or were otherwise occupied with real life. As in"get one, S."

S. said...

Now, now Anne.

You think I'm going to let you get away with that.

I admit to being an ass, but I challenge you to find one statement I have made here or on the Bayou that was racist, homophobic or in which I have quoted scripture, God forbid!

In fact, madam, I have frequently been the one to put it to certain misguided individuals in a very not nice way on the Bayou for racists statements.

But I can see you are a true Demodummy of the liberal wing of your party in that you paint anyone who has a legitimate philosophical or political difference as a racist or homophobic.

How many times Anne have I put it to you for idiotic statements you have made and you never respond to defend them?

By the way, if you are not the Anne of the Bayou who frequently threatens to sit on people with "your big ass" then I apologize. I am, however rarely wrong.

"Not sure why you liberals are still hung up on the war."

War kills people, that's why. Mostly poor people, so no worries for you rich guys, right? No one is hating on rich people around here, but your gall to think paying taxes on your millions is punishment, while our boys shed their blood for your freedoms, is unfathomable.

Never mind. What Anne said.
